Mental health is an important cause for Cooper, especially as it pertains to children. A number of our team members are parents themselves, and all parents want to see their children healthy and thriving. Though awareness is improving, mental health is often an under-funded and under-acknowledged issue and resources can be scarce – especially for children. That’s why it’s important to us to provide support to such a key initiative that opens up possibilities for children and their parents.
About Intensive In-Home Service
Launched in early 2020, George Hull’s Intensive In-Home Service addresses the needs of youth ages 12-17 with complex mental health concerns, and their families, without separating the youth from their caregivers. It provides therapeutic and psycho-educational services in the context of their life spaces: at home, at school, and in their communities. In this manner, youth do not experience the sense of abandonment and rejection that is often associated with removal from home, and positive changes and behavioural gains are sustainable and applicable to the family’s daily experience.
Upon its launch, Director of Day Treatment Programs, Tahmo Gharabaghi, shared his excitement: “It is difficult to describe the excitement that a group of professionals feels when they are presented with the opportunity to create a new program ‘from scratch’, and it is even more extraordinary when this program is exactly what has been missing from the offerings of an agency that is committed to helping its clients in any way possible.”
About George Hull Centre for Children and Families
The George Hull Centre is a hub for children’s mental health, supporting children up to the age of 18 and their families. Operating as an accredited mental health centre, they provide many services such as assessment, therapeutic plans, individual and group therapy for children of all ages as well as their families, information workshops, residential and day treatment for adolescents and substance abuse treatment for adolescents.
