This Pride Month, we're celebrating those who never stopped – Canadians who fought for equality, visibility, and a better country for all. We're recognizing three 2SLGBTQIA+ trailblazers whose courage helped shape Canada and inspire what's next.
Today, we're highlighting Michelle Douglas – a Canadian activist who fought for equality and won, changing the lives of countless Canadians in uniform.
In 1992, she took the Canadian military to court after being discharged solely because of her sexual orientation – and she won. Her landmark legal victory ended the Canadian Armed Forces' ban on 2SLGBTQIA+ service members, forcing one of the country's most prominent institutions to change. She went on to become a tireless advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights across Canada.
Her fight reminds us that institutional change is possible – and that the courage to challenge the system has a lasting impact on every generation that follows.
