People Development

We are committed to offering our team members a wide range of development opportunities, recognizing that learning happens everywhere—whether in a classroom, online, or through valuable real-world experiences like coaching and on-the-job training.

With more than 85 branches across Canada, we provide varied career pathways, comprehensive training programs, and a culture which fosters growth, helping to inspire and empower our team to reach their full potential.

Recognizing Excellence

Our awards and recognition programs celebrate team members who go above and beyond, playing a vital role in Cooper’s success and embodying our core values every day. Alongside informal, day-to-day recognition—such as shout-outs in our internal newsletter and posts on social media—we also present annual awards to recognize exceptional achievements at the regional level in areas including safety, customer service, quality, and continuous improvement.

We also honor our team members’ commitment with Long Term Service Awards, celebrating milestone anniversaries of 5, 10, 15, 35, and even 40 years of service with Cooper!

Career Paths and Career Planning

At Cooper, we proudly offer limitless career opportunities. We are committed to supporting our employees’ success and fostering their professional growth. Whether you’re interested in roles like Yard and Equipment Coordinators, Operational Support, Mechanics, Sales, Marketing, Fleet Management, Service, or Health and Safety—there’s a career path for you at Cooper!

For instance, starting as a Yard Coordinator gives you the chance to build a solid foundation of knowledge in construction equipment and gain a comprehensive understanding of the rental equipment industry. From there, you can explore various paths, such as transitioning to a Driver, stepping into a customer-facing role as a Rental Coordinator, advancing into Sales, or training to become a Mechanic. Each of these opportunities can pave the way for supervisory and leadership roles as you continue to grow your career at Cooper.

Training Credentials / Support for our Team

At Cooper, we take a no-compromise approach to safety, striving for a workplace free from incidents, injuries, and illness. Everyone shares the responsibility to maintain a safe, positive, and respectful environment.

We provide comprehensive, cost-free training for employees in five key areas: safety, leadership, customer service, technical skills, and soft skills. Our commitment to promoting from within encourages career growth and strengthens retention, keeping our team motivated and engaged.

To ensure safety, we offer a range of certifications, including Operator Training for Aerial Work Platforms, Fork Trucks, Telehandlers, Skid Steer and Mini Excavator Operator Awareness Training, Working at Heights (MOL approved), and Propane Gas Handling.

Skilled Trades Internship

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

In 2024, our Lethbridge branch was happy to be able to take part in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) and help work with young students to move into the trades.

The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) gives high school students a head start on their careers. While working toward their Alberta High School Diploma or Certificate of Achievement, students can also begin hands‑on training in a registered trade. It’s a practical way to learn, gain real experience, and build a solid foundation for the future. To learn more, visit Careers Next Gen.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)

Since 2024, Cooper has proudly sponsored the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), furthering our commitment to fostering the next generation of skilled trades professionals. OYAP provides high school students with the opportunity to explore and gain hands-on experience in the trades, setting them on the path toward fulfilling careers.
