Mentorship Programs for New Hires

New and inexperienced workers often face challenges with worksite hazards. To support their transition, Cooper launched the ‘Blue Safety Vest – Safety Training’ mentorship program. This initiative pairs new hires with an experienced mentor at their branch, ensuring they understand potential hazards and are equipped to manage risks in their role.

Mentors provide guidance, answer questions, and regularly meet with new hires during their first six months to review safe work procedures and assess competency. New hires wear a blue safety vest to signal to coworkers and managers that they may need extra support.

At Cooper, we continually refine our programs to maintain our leadership in safety.

Safety Recognition Programs

COR Certification

Cooper is proud of its commitment to health and safety, as demonstrated by our successful completion of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) in various provinces across Canada. We achieved certification in Alberta in 2020, followed by British Columbia in 2021, and most recently in Ontario in 2022, as administered by the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (“IHSA”). As we continue to expand our operations into new regions, Cooper is dedicated to enhancing our health and safety management systems.

Sterling Driver Program

Cooper’s Sterling Driver Program recognizes and rewards drivers of all class trucks and service vehicles who have maintained an incident-free driving record for either four, eight, twelve, sixteen or twenty consecutive quarters with a financial bonus.

Branch Safety Scorecard Program

Cooper’s Branch Safety Scorecard Program recognizes and rewards branches for maintaining high safety standards throughout the year. Each branch is measured against key performance indicators (KPIs) and undergoes monthly inspections to ensure critical safety actions are addressed. Branches that meet these safety goals receive a financial incentive at the end of the year, shared among all employees. This program not only rewards safe practices but also encourages a proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement.

League of Champions (LOC)

Cooper is proud to sponsor the League of Champions (LOC), an industry-leading organization dedicated to promoting a culture of safety in the construction field. The LOC brings together companies, labor organizations, and safety advocates to inspire workers to make safety a priority on every job site. Through this partnership, Cooper collaborates with the League of Champions to promote and reinforce safe work practices, helping to create a safer environment for all. Together, we’re driving awareness and action in the industry, ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of everything we do.
