Mentorship Programs for New Hires – Blue Safety Vest – Safety Training

Cooper takes a holistic safety program approach that monitors each step at worksites to ensure that workers are trained properly, and that injuries and accidents are prevented. We are constantly improving our processes and procedures to remain ahead of the curve and to try to prevent accidents before they happen.

New and inexperienced workers are often at a disadvantage when it comes to worksite hazards. In 2021 Cooper launched an internal mentorship program called ‘Blue Safety Vest – Safety Training’ for new hires to help them transition easily and safely into their new role.

This program ensures new and inexperienced workers are aware of the hazards and are competent in managing the risks in their duties and work environment.

The Blue Safety Vest – Safety Training program pairs new hires with an experienced mentor at their branch who acts as a source of information and is the “go-to” person for questions and guidance. The mentor and mentee meet periodically to cover safe work procedures and safe work practices associated with the job and to assess the new hire’s competency periodically throughout their first six months of employment.

We identify new hires with a ‘blue safety vest,’ so that other workers and managers that they meet know the newer employee might need some extra guidance or assistance.

Our continuous innovation mindset means we will keep refining our existing programs and developing new ways to further our leadership position on safety.
